The importance of DAISY software again is the ease in which information can be accessed by a person with a disability. DAISY eBooks can be heard on computers using DAISY software. DAISY Software reads the book using the built in text to speech (TTS) plug-in in your computer.

-       On of the free open source  DAISY playback software is the AMIS Player(Adaptive Multimedia Information System). This is a self-voicing player for Windows that works with several screen readers. The player is developed by DAISY Consortium and it is available in several languages including English.

From our ‘accessibility’ perspective the key feature of electronic devices that read text out loud is their 'ease of use' and little to no software/hardware crashes that are common place with PCs and tablet devices.

·         The players that are used to read the Digital Talking Books are essential in terms of their ease of use to access all parts of an electronic document.

·         These players reproduce audio and display text.

·         The audio can be controlled for slow or fast listening.

·         Some of these devices are primarily designed to playback books.

The Consortium website http://www.daisy.org/tools/hplayback has information on the latest accessible player technology.
