People Learn Productions (formerly Narkaling Inc) is a NGO producer of accessible publications for people with intellectual disabilities and also print disabilities. Since the late 1980s the Narkaling project produced talking books for clients with a disability. Several joint ventures with Australian libraries made it possible for publications of this to be made available for print disabled members of the community .
The Narkaling Audio book project has been assisted by government funding mainly by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs.
PLP current projects include the distribution of mixed media publications which include audio, print and user guides. The use of DAISY file access has also been added to further specialize the use of our mixed media publications. Productions of such mixed media publications have also been commissioned for various government departments.
Our latest projects continue with the aim of making public domain publications accessible to print disabled members. The projects concentrate in the republication of materials in DAISY and other accessible digital talking book formats. Publications are made available to print disabled members, and affiliated organisations that can help distribute such publications to their members with a disability.
