The ceremonial cauldron has been lit in London’s Trafalgar Square to officially launch the 2012 games, beginning this week. It will burn for the 11 days of the competition.
Yesterday Her Majesty The Queen officially declared the London Paralympic Games open.
The opening ceremony was truly spectacular and our team of athletes proudly took their places in the parade.
The chosen Aussie flag bearer for the 2012 London Paralympic Games was wheelchair rugby player, Greg Smith. The 45-year-old is competing at his fifth Paralympics and it was announced at a special function at Cardiff Castle He certainly carried the flag with pride and never stopped smiling. When his duties were done, he was able to sit back and enjoy the show.

A variety of initiatives have been put in place around Australia to support the National Year of Reading 2012. Many ambassadors from footballers to politicians have been promoting reading projects and events that promote the aims of the National Year of Reading 2012.
The National Year of Reading 2012 is a collaborative project that brings attention to the joy of reading and emphasizes the need for young readers to discover the magic of books. This project encourages children and adults to learn how to read and also providing readers a window of opportunity to discover new publications and inspirational authors.
